Isles of Capri
Across the river from Marco Island and to the north, you'll find the Isles of Capri. This small community with the romantic name offers idyllic allure to residents and visitors. Four mangrove islands amidst Johnson Bay, Tarpon Bay, the Marco River and the Gulf of Mexico, natural beauty surround these islands.

In 1955, L.L. (Doc) Loach searched for a tranquil setting for a fisherman's retreat. He purchased the four islands consisting of 700 acres and the Isles of Capri were born. Doc Loach connected the islands by dredging causeways and built a road linking the island cluster to the mainland. Canals and homes were constructed and a hideaway for fishing and boating enthusiasts was created.
Today you'll find the winding waterways provide wonderful boating opportunities and the abundance of trout, snapper, tarpon, redfish and Snook make the Isles of Capri a fisherman's paradise. Manatees feed in the grass beds, dolphins play in the bay, and ospreys and bald eagles soar overhead. Take a drive up State Road 951 just north of Marco Island and wander on down Capri Boulevard. You'll enjoy the quiet natural setting of the Isles of Capri.

Kayak rentals and instuction are available there as well as several fine restaurants.
