Meet Our GM - Lynn Dahl
Q: What makes the Marco Island area a unique vacation destination?
A: Marco Island is located at the southernmost tip of mainland Florida’s west coast. Known as the "Paradise Coast" along with Naples and The Everglades, Marco Island is the largest inhabited isle of the "Ten Thousand Islands." In 2014, TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice awarded Marco Island the #1 island in the United States and the #4 island in the world. You can't get any better than that.
Q: What is your favorite area restaurant?
A: CJ ‘s on The Bay. Known for its fresh seafood as well as standard fare, it has a laid-back atmosphere where you can sit inside in air conditioning or outside along Smokehouse Bay and Marina. The sunsets are beautiful, and they also have an outdoor bar overlooking the bay. It’s truly a real local restaurant.
Q: If you could only choose one local attraction that is a must-see, what would it be?
A: Without a doubt, the Everglades. You are sure to have a memorable time whether you take an airboat ride or actually visit the Everglades National Park, which protects the unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. The Everglades are an international treasure as they are a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, a Wetland of International Importance, and a specially protected area under the Cartagena Treaty. People travel from all over the world to see this attraction.
Q: What is your background in the hospitality industry?
A: I was in the food industry until I made the switch in 2010 to the hotel side. I have had the pleasure of being the General Manager at a variety of hotels in the Beachtree Properties portfolio.
Q: How long have you been the GM at Marco Island Lakeside Inn?
A: February 2017
Q: What is your favorite room at Marco Island Lakeside Inn and why?
A: My favorite room is 101 which is our only 2-bedroom, 2-bath Lakeview Suite. It is twice the size of the 1-bedroom suites and feels very spacious. It has sliding glass doors overlooking the lake from both the living room and the back bedroom and is the only suite with a huge private deck featuring a hammock, dining table and numerous seating areas.
Q: What makes Marco Island Lakeside Inn different from surrounding hotels?
A: Nearly all the hotels on Marco Island are oceanfront, high-rise resorts. What make us stand out is our old Floridian, Key West atmosphere. We have a peaceful, relaxing location in a quiet residential area, yet it is only a 1/4 mile from restaurants and shops. There are almost 80 nearby restaurants which are all locally run and owned, with the exception of three fast food places. We are also the only hotel that is situated on the only freshwater lake on the island (Marco Lake) with a sandy beach lining the shore, creating a perfect oasis to relax and enjoy the warm weather and local wildlife. Marco Lake is a designated natural habitat for local birds, ducks and turtles to name a few. It is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a cocktail before dinner while taking in the serene atmosphere.
